4 Steps to Relaxing Tea Time at Home

For a simple way to create a relaxing tea experience at home try these 4 simple steps.

Basic Items you will need:

  • Your favorite loose leaf tea

  • a small brewing vessel (Teapot or French press) OR small glass + kitchen strainer

  • tea cup(s)

  • something green plucked from nature and placed nearby (I cut a branch off the orange tree outside my house.)

  • an unscented or mildly scented candle or mild incense.

Step 1 -

Boil water to appropriate temperature and pour into teapot/brewing vessel and glasses to purify and warm the glasses.

Step 2

Measure out about 3 grams of tea (about a tablespoon) while you wait for water to boil.

Step 3

Pour water in a slow swirling motion into brewing vessel. Enjoy the aromas released by taking long deep inhales and exhales. Be entertained by the way the tea leaves wake up and dance around the pot. Steep for appropriate time (typically 3-4min for caffeinated tea or 7-10min for herbal tisanes). Pour/Strain into cup.

Step 4

Remove lid from teapot. Waft and smell the aromas of the tea leaves from the pot and compare that to the aromas of the tea. Enjoy the steamy aromatherapy session.

    Bonus Step

When the tea has cooled to a drinkable temperature, slurp your tea to incorporate air in the intake and chew the liquor around in your mouth like you would at a wine tasting. (This is not rude! Tea sommeliers do this to reveal all the subtle hidden flavors.) Try some of the tea and enjoy all the flavors as they journey through your tongue to the back of your throat.

Is there a lingering finish on the palate?

How would you rate the smoothness and texture?

What’s the color of the liquor?

You did it. Time to relax now :)
